A Castle in Bucks County

Covid has forced us to stay put. And it has afforded us the ability to take stock of what is close by.

Recently we checked out the Henry Mercer Castle in Doylestown, PA.

It is an interesting peek into the attorney, archeologist and tile magnet's life. The castle was built over 8 years starting in 1912 and is a snapshot of Mercers "itchy feet". All his original books and notes are kept intact, including a few copies of Lawrence of Arabia and a whole shelf devoted to Edgar Allen Poe. There are tiles from all over the world including those from Mesopotamia. These supplement the extensive use of his own creations There is a photo overload here but the place deserves each of them.

The castle has tiles from al over the world including those from ancient china and Babylonia. These tiles are catalogued so anyone can reach into the notes and trace them.

In additional all the walls and cielings of the 44 room house are covered in Mercer designed tiles. The castle also served as a sales room. If you wanted a custom tile, simply check out whats available and request a customization for anything from individual tiles to magnificent tile collages.

We spent an hour on the grounds and had a beautiful picnic of Gazpacho and sandwiches. All in all a good day.
